what is a home while thousands of people in palestine, sudan, congo, haiti, cuba, and hawai’i are forcibly removed from their homes? what is home when thousands -globally- face houselessness?
how can we reconcile the ideas of home while so many lose theirs? how can we reconcile our shared privilege of knowing what a home is? how can we reconcile that imperialism can deem who is and is not worthy of home at a moments notice?
the intention behind “renditions of home” is an attempt to preserve a digital memory of home as we know it IN SPITE of imperialism.
home is an essence of who we are. but how can we place that into something tangible and representative of what home is to us? NAS’ brilliance of allowing himself to be influenced by everyone and everything around him to appear in his work is something that inspires me to take a double look around me as i walk through daily life. it is because of his words that i am personally able to take inventory of my surroundings as home.
i am proud to announce that this is rasquache press’ first official thematic call for submissions (OF ALL MEDIUMS OF ART!) titled renditions of home.
is your home represented through your photography? submit it. do you channel your home through your poetry? submit it. is your home depicted in your works of art? submit it.
